The Four types of English Literature
As mentioned beforehand, the four types of English Literature are Poetry, Drama, Fiction and non-fiction.
There are countless other sub-sections that include general genres such as fantasy, mystery and etc.
Starting with Poetry, poetry is a form of literature that creates a picture of sorts using language.
It utilizes what one might consider "flowery language" or general aesthetics to express certain feelings, and to get the audience to feel some sort of way.
Be it happy, sad or angry, all of these can be achieved with the uniqueness that only poetry has.
Things such as similes, metaphors, Alliteration are also huge components of poetry.
General rhymes are probably the most well-recognized part of this literature form after all, that's all for this part.
Now for Drama, you have things such as Shakespeare, and other things that can be considered fiction able to be performed live/in-real-time.
Dramas have a lot more dialogue, and can also be seen as more serious compared to regular fiction.
Think of some popular examples like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, King Leo and A
Midsummer Nights Dream, all of these are dramas.
Fiction on the other hand is exactly what it sounds like.
An entirely imaginative narrative with entirely imaginative characters and an imaginative conflict (if there is one).
It's also arguably the most flexible of all of these literature types, as the writer has all of the freedom that they can have.
They can use their own writing style, write their own dialogue and just write the story that they want to.
Non-fiction however, is the complete opposite.
The contents must be based off of real-life events, and can include things like news stories, textbooks, reviews etc.
The point of these stories are to inform the reader of something, perhaps what's happening in the world today, the opinions of a certain person, or just general information.
To conclude, all of these types of literature are important components to English Literature as a whole, and are parts of focus that require an immense amount of reason.
Be on the lookout for these four, as they'll probably take up an entire unit of English Lit, and who knows?
Maybe there's a hidden gem in here for you.
