Curriculum

Science 8 chemistry

The curriculum of Chemistry 11/12 as well as Science  are slightly different, but are quite similar in terms of foundations.

Science 8 is an introductory course that focuses on giving students a taste of all of the different working parts of the school subject itself.

The chemistry section that is covered in Science 8 consists mainly of engaging in lab experiments, and around the construction of atoms (also known as the Atomic theory and such).

In terms of Science 9, students are more inclined to experiment with a hands-on approach.

This is also the point in which students are moved to choose which part of science that they want to focus on.

More specifically however, it centres around the electron arrangement of atoms that impacts their chemical nature.

Science 10

For Science 10, students will mostly explore different lab activities, as well as many different aspects of chemistry.

Chemical processes that require energy for atoms to change and traverse are a very big part of this entire unit.

The goal of the main course is for students to become more and more aware of the actual world that they live in, which chemistry definitely has a huge impact on.

I mean, why wouldn't you want to learn about it? If I haven't told you already.

Grade 11 is known as the hardest academic year for those in it, and the subject of Chemistry 11 certainly isn't an exception.

Some of the topics covered in this grade are: technical skills in the lab as well as the periodic table, classification of matter, biochemistry, nuclear chemistry etc.

On top of all of this, mathematics play a very important part in the entire subject, because a scientific calculator are essential

Chemistry 12

In terms of Chemistry 12, it very clearly builds off of the prerequisite of Chemistry 11.

It includes certain topics such as: kinetics, chemical equilibrium, solubility, acids and bases, and electrochemistry.

Problem solving, critical thinking and understanding are also core parts of the entire subject that students are pushed to think about and truly understand.

While laboratory work isn't the biggest part of this subject, it still plays a relatively big part in it.
